For many residents, before the move to assisted living, their week was capped by attending worship services and the fellowship thereafter. Many participated in prayer groups or bible studies throughout the week and worry that they will not be able to continue when they relocate to assisted living. Or they may have encountered physical challenges that prohibited them from enjoying these activities. Rest assured, spiritual life and worship in assisted living is a priority.
- Enjoying the Familiar
Continuing worship at their own parish or church is vital to some residents. With the assistance of family members, friends, church buses or even the community itself, residents can be transported to and from services of their choice. It’s a great way for them to have quality time with their friends and families and continue meaningful activities.
- A New Sunday Worship
Many assisted living communities offer on-site services for their residents. With music, prayer and scripture, residents come together on Sundays to share the Word and receive communion. Voices can be heard echoing through the halls singing favorite hymns and learning new ones. Often times even those suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia will share in the songs.
- Taking Advantage of Technology
While some residents will enjoy worship via popular television pastors and services, some are able to tap into their home church via telephone or internet. What a comfort to be able to hear and/or see the services in their church. Just hearing the sermon from their pastor or a favorite soloist can really brighten a senior loved one’s day.
- Celebrate with Music
Welcoming in a musical group from a local church, Girl or Boy Scout Troop or school performing club can be a great treat for assisted living residents. They enjoy the change to the schedule and meeting new people. Especially around the holidays, more groups are looking for opportunities to perform – and assisted living communities love the visitors.
- The Learning Continues
Throughout the week, many communities hold bible studies. Some have them every day and others have them a few times a week. Residents enjoy the visitors that come in to host the studies and the sometimes lively discussions that can ensue. Some communities will host Revivals in conjunction with a local event or a Vacation Bible School week with crafts, activities and songs on-site in the community.
All twelve of the Senior Solutions Communities offer transportation to offsite worship services as well as on-site celebrations for their residents. We understand the importance of continuing the spiritual activities and traditions when residents reside with us.
